Family hike to the Pacific Ocean

Our adventure on the Ozette Triangle hike started out early Friday morning. We drove to Whidbey and took the Ferry to Port Townsend.

From there we drove west, to lake Ozette, 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The map below shows the hiking route that we took. First we hiked to Cape Alava, then 3 miles along the beach to Sand Point, then on Sunday, 3 miles back to the trailhead.

The first night at Cape Alava, we had a camp fire on the beach and roasted marshmallows.

Below is the view from our campsite, this was a nice and grassy campground.

We used two tents for the 4 of us.

On Saturday, Marcia fixed a great taco lunch on the beach hike.

After arriving at sand point George decided to make sand angels (like snow angels) in the sand. He still doesn't understand how so much sand ended up in his tent later. Throughout the afternoon, George and Alex built beach forts, and explored the beach areas.

Marcia, George and Alex with their packs on ready to head home.

Here I am throwing my pack on, ready to hike out.

The the trails from the parking lot to Cape Alava and to Sand Point were board walks made from splitting cedar logs.

Getting home was a bit of an issue. It was a bit stormy, and the little Port Townsend Ferry couldn't handle the waves. It had to turn back, and we then drove to the Edmonds / Kingston ferry.

What a great weekend.

Our friends in Norway told us about this great game called Kongespill that they played recently.

You play it on your lawn.

It was described to me as two teams attempt to knock over their opponents blocks of wood by hurling lengths of dowel.

I am going to have to learn all the rules and try it out.
Back from Osoyoos

For the 3 day weekend we visited Osoyoos Lake State park. This should not be confused with the Soyuz spacecraft which was built by the Soviet Union.

Osoyoos is a lake in Eastern Washington / Eastern BC. The lake crosses the border between Washington and BC.

To start out we didn't know how the weather was going to turn out.

The rainbow was amazing.

On Saturday we went north into BC Canada to visit the tasting rooms at a couple of the local wineries.

We found a lovely building for someone to fix up. Maybe not the best flip house, but it was a great view.

When we were in Canada, we noticed a fire break out on one of the ridges above the town of Oliver. The forest service was on the scene quickly with drops of flame retardant.

This statue was located at the BC Visitor Information center.

When driving through Osoyoos, we discovered a store called Stedmans.

Alex and I slept out under the stars on Sunday night (no tent).

On Monday Gypsy wanted to go biking, but she couldn't get the bike helmet to fit.
